What to bring on your beach vacation

Deciding what to bring for your next stay with Padre Escapes can be difficult. So to help with this process we’ve put together a list of items we think you should bring on your next trip to the Texas Gulf Coast.

One thing we want to point out is we are leaving out the obvious stuff like tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant, swimsuit, etc. Those are just too easy, instead we’ll focus on “the other stuff.”

  1. Treatment for jellyfish stings, vinegar & meat tenderizer, are the most common home remedies. A good pair of tweezers for removing tentacles is a good choice too. In addition, after you remove the tentacles, soak the affected area in hot water for at least 20 minutes. Use mild hydrocortisone cream or an oral antihistamine to relieve itching and swelling.
  2. Sunscreen, this could be included on the obvious list but just in case it’s not, we’re going to include it. Aloe Vera or some kind of similar sunburn treatment should be included as well.
  3. Beach/pool towels, Padre Escapes provides bath towels but you will want to be sure to include your own beach/pool towels when you’re packing up.
  4. Sandals, don’t be the guy or gal walking down to the beach in your tennis shoes. And also don’t be guy or gal with no shoes on, sprinting across the hot sand.
  5. Sun protection, hat, sunglasses, sun resistant shirts (light & breathable), umbrella, etc.
  6. In case it’s not obvious from the list above…it’s hot! Bring and drink lots of water. A cold cerveza tastes great on the beach but a cold water will save you from dehydrating. If you are staying in a pet-friendly property be sure to bring plenty of water for your furry friend too.
  7. Visitors who do not come to the area on a regular basis may not realize that you can drive on the beach. Before doing so be sure you pick up a beach parking pass from any local gas station for $12.
  8. A portable speaker, leaving your doors or windows open is an option but you don’t want to get sand in your car…it’s not easy to get out. Bringing a portable speaker will help you avoid a sandy ride home.
  9. Chargers & charging cords, no doubt you’ll be snapping lots of pics and posting to social media (be sure to include #padreescapes) and that phone battery will be running low. Bring a charger with you so your phone doesn’t run out of juice.
  10. Texas state law does not allow us to leave any food products between stays, including salt, pepper, spices, and oils so be sure to pack these with you before you head down.
